Network Feedback

The resulting PCN can be visualized immediately within the online questionnaire and shown back to the participant.

This creates both a potential clinical feature and an additional validation opportunity.

Immediate feedback questions

After viewing the network, participants can rate:

  • How well does this network represent how your problems are connected?
  • Does the network contain information about you that the questionnaire alone did not capture?
  • Does the network help you understand your problems?
  • Do you recognize yourself in this representation?
  • Does the visualization make important connections clearer?
  • Could this representation be useful in a therapeutic conversation?

Possible domains:

  • representativeness,
  • coherence,
  • insight,
  • personalization,
  • perceived control,
  • usefulness,
  • motivation.

Participant refinement

A particularly informative validation step is to allow participants to edit the network after first viewing it.

Possible edits:

  • delete an edge,
  • add an edge,
  • change direction,
  • change strength.

This yields a direct measure of how much of the automatically elicited network is retained after reflection.

Experimental extension

Participants could be randomized to:

  • standard questionnaire feedback,
  • questionnaire feedback + individualized PCN feedback.

Immediate outcomes could test whether the relational visualization itself adds value.

See Study Design.

Visualization principles

The visualization should:

  • use the questionnaire items or short participant-friendly labels as nodes,
  • make edge direction clear,
  • encode strength intuitively,
  • avoid implying scientific certainty,
  • and be easy to interpret on both desktop and mobile devices.
